How to Prepare Print-Ready Files: CMYK, 300 DPI and Bleed Explained

A print-ready file prints exactly as you expect — no blurry images, cut-off text or surprise colours. Use this checklist before uploading.

The print-ready checklist

  1. Correct size — set your document to the final trim size plus bleed.
  2. 3 mm bleed on all sides for anything that touches the edge.
  3. Safe zone — keep text and logos 3–5 mm inside the trim.
  4. 300 DPI for small items (cards, stickers); 150 DPI is fine for large banners.
  5. CMYK colour mode — RGB colours (especially bright blues and greens) can look duller in print.
  6. Fonts embedded or converted to outlines.
  7. Export as PDF (PDF/X-1a if your software offers it).

Which file formats do we accept?

PDF, AI, CDR, PSD, high-resolution PNG and JPG. ZIP files work for multiple photos.

Frequently asked questions

Why do printed colours look different from my screen?

+

Screens show RGB light; printers use CMYK inks, which cannot reproduce some very bright RGB colours. Designing in CMYK gives the most accurate preview.

What DPI do I need for printing?

+

300 DPI at the final size for close-up items like cards and stickers; 100–150 DPI is enough for large banners viewed from a distance.
